In 1988, a group of anesthesia administrators from anesthesia groups located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston (Charles Brown - Baylor Medical School, Judy Huber - MH Anesthesiology, Betsy McEldowney - UT Medical School, Carolyn Pirie - Medical Center Anesthesia, Mary Beth Wilson - Houston Anesthesiology)  began meeting quarterly to discuss common billing and practice management issues. In 1989, they held the first annual meeting in Dallas with representatives from Medicare. In 1991, the meeting was held in Houston and included representatives from Medicare, Medicaid and Texas Workers Compensation. On January 6, 1992, Anesthesia Administrators of Texas was officially incorporated as a Texas non-profit corporation. In September of that same year, AAT was approved by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(6) non-profit business league. In addition to meeting with representatives from government payors, subsequent meetings have included representatives from the Texas Society of Anesthesiology as well as many nationally recognized speakers. Educational sessions have been provided on compliance, coding, human resources, practice surveys, and many other issues to provide attendees with the tools they need to help improve the anesthesiology groups they serve. In addition to the annual educational conferences, AAT has provided its members with frequent newsletters, specialty one-day conferences, and a dedicated Member-only web community.
